Full-time opportunities for sworn personnel abide by Ohio civil service law standards and require interested individuals to successfully pass an entrance examination (held approximately every 24 months). The Girard Police Department operates a part-time police officer program as well as a part-time dispatching program. Applications for these programs are accepted year-round, are reviewed when any openings arise, and are held for a period of 24 months.

Part-time GPD police officers engage in a wide range of activities to include supplementing active turns, assisting in large events, providing transport services, providing municipal court security and more. Part-time GPD dispatchers are trained in the operation of the city’s 911 system and conduct police, fire and emergency dispatching services.
